Thursday, Jan26 / Mom Havin Sex, Lindsay Lohan, Not So Death Row,
Good
morning to you, today is Thursday, January 26, 2012, and I am your humble host,
the sultan of satire, the purveyor of non-pertinent information, the troublemaker
extraordinaire and I am coming to you recorded from the Eagle’s nest here at
wake up central with news you can’t use here on the Thursday edition of The
Morning Wake Up Call.
Teen Reported Mom for Having Sex
A Florida teenager called
911 last week to ask police to place her in a children’s shelter because she
“heard her mother having sex.”
The
15-year-old girl felt disrespected when overhearing her mother having sex late
one night, so she called Panama City police to report the situation, The
Smoking Gun first reported on its website.
When
police arrived at the home in the early hours on Jan. 19, the girl’s mother
explained that she was with her boyfriend and didn't intend to wake her
daughter. But their bedrooms are right next to each other, according to the
police report, which was obtained by FoxNews.com.
At
some point, the mother and daughter had an argument, the police report said.
The
teen, who told police that there was no abuse, originally asked to be taken to
the Hidle House, which is a temporary home for children who are homeless or
abused. But after speaking with a representative, she decided it was almost
time for school and decided to stay put.
A
domestic rights brochure was left for the family, the police report said.
Lohan In The News Again – Huffington Post
LOS ANGELES -- Lindsay
Lohan's bad luck with cars continues after a woman who claims she was struck by
the actress' sports car sued over her injuries Wednesday. Nubia Del Carmen
Preza claims she was struck by Lohan's Maserati while walking through a West
Hollywood intersection in September 2010.
Preza's lawsuit states she has suffered "disabling and
serious personal injuries, pain, suffering and anguish" and that she is
seeking damages for all her medical expenses and lost time at work. A call to
her attorney, Gregory Picco, seeking additional details was not immediately
returned.
It is the second lawsuit filed against Lohan this month involving
an automobile mishap. A paparazzo sued Lohan Jan. 10, claiming that he was
struck in January 2010 by a vehicle in which Lohan was riding. Grigor Balyan
claims he was trying to shoot pictures of the actress in Hollywowhen he was
hit.
Preza's lawsuit states Lohan was driving when she was hit on the
afternoon of Sept. 1, 2010, at an intersection just south of the Sunset Strip.
At the time, Lohan lived near the intersection.
Not so Death Row
Danny Robbie Hembree
considers himself a gentleman of leisure. He enjoys color TV, air conditioning
and abundant food. He naps pretty much whenever he feels like it.
He
also happens to live on death row at Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C. But that’s
not a bad thing, he wrote in a taunting letter to his hometown newspaper, the
Gaston Gazette.
In
fact, Hembree wrote, the state of North Carolina has taken the
"death" out of death row.
"Kill
me if you can, suckers. Ha! Ha! Ha!" Hembree gloated in his letter,
portions of which were published by the Gazette on Tuesday.
Hembree,
50, was sentenced to death in November for suffocating a 17-year-old girl in
2009, and is also accused of killing two other North Carolina women. But no one
has been executed in the state since 2006 because of legal challenges over
lethal injections and whether a physician must oversee executions.
"Is
the public aware that the chances of my lawful murder taking place in the next
20 years if ever are very slim?" Hembree wrote on lined notebook paper in
what he described as an editorial.
Meanwhile,
life is sweet. "Is the public aware I am a gentleman of leisure, watching
color TV in the A.C., reading, taking naps at will, eating three well-balanced
meals a day?" he wrote.
Oh,
and he also receives free government healthcare, he pointed out.
The
man who prosecuted Hembree, Gaston County Dist. Atty. Locke Bell, was not
amused.
11 Year Old Good Samaritan
Honey
Brook’s Conner Haines is a young man who has not hesitated in tapping into his
potential. The eleven-year-old has a love for computers and games, particularly
the popular programs known as ‘apps’ (short for applications) which are found
on smartphones and tablet devices such as the iPhone and iPad. His tech savvy
is such that he decided to undertake learning how to create apps of his own,
and his heart is such that he has chosen to use his ability at creating apps to
raise money to help kids with cancer.
Conner and
his mother, Dawn Haines, have begun this process by laying the groundwork for
the creation of Conner’s non-profit organization, BElieve, which encourages
5-12 year old cancer patients to send their ideas for apps to Conner for
development. In turn, Conner will sell these apps through Apple and donate the
money raised to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The only caveat, according to
Conner’s Web site, www.flipflopgames.com, is “Please make sure the idea of the
game is not too hard for me to develop. I’m only 11 years old, thanks.”

Adoption Refund – Huffington Post
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An
American woman who sent her adopted Russian son back to Moscow alone on a plane
with a note saying she didn't want him anymore is facing a lawsuit for child
support, which is scheduled for trial in March.
Torry Hansen refused to
cooperate with investigators after the boy, then 7, reached Russia in April
2010 with a note stating he had psychological problems. She was never charged
criminally, but her adoption agency filed a lawsuit in Tennessee, where she was
then living, seeking child support.
The suit is scheduled for
trial March 27 in a Shelbyville court.
“Sex Meter” – Huffington Post
The city of Bonn, Germany, collected around $20,000 last year from prostitution taxes paid via automated curbside pay
stations or "sex meters." Under the new program, sex workers are
required to purchase tickets to work the streets at night, the Associated Foreign Press reports.
While a number of other German cities
collect taxes from prostitutes working in brothels, Bonn became the first city
to extend general prostitution taxes to workers soliciting clients on the
street when itintroduced the sex meters last August, according to the
AFP.
The sex meters charge prostitutes a flat nightly rate of $8.65 for the
right to solicit clients on the street between 8:15 p.m. and 6 a.m.,
according to The New York Times.
City estimates place the number of sex workers at around 200, with about 20 of
them working the streets on any given night.
It was unclear whether the city would
recoup costs from installing the Siemens-built machines around the city, which
cost $11,575 for installation plus the cost of security guards hired to protect
workers using them, according to The New York Times.
In addition, the city paid to
construct special wooden garages, or "consummation areas," near the machines where customers can
park their cars and have sex, Reuters reported.
City officials were pleasantly
surprised when the machines earned around $400 the first weekend and went on to
earn around 14,000 Euro, or $18,200, by the year's end, according to the AFP.
"We are satisfied with that and
plan to continue levying the tax," a city spokeswoman told AFP.
Between taxes paid by prostitutes in
brothels and on the street, Germany collected around $326,000 last year.
Drug Deal With The Cops – Huffington Post
Two accused drug dealers were collared
on Friday after one of them allegedly sent a text offering to sell 200 Percocet
pills - directly to a cop in Meriden, Connecticut.
Cops told NBC Connecticut that
Lorraine Apuzzo, 19, mistakenly sent the text to an officer at about 3 p.m. The
quick-thinking cop played along and set up a buy the same day, when undercover
officers met with Apuzzo and her buddy, 25-year-old Frank Boemmels at a
Westfield mall.
At some point between texting cops and
allegedly offering them drugs at the mall, Apuzzo got suspicious and tried to
drive away, according to CBS. But detectives said they cornered the
pill pusher and busted open her windows to get her out of the car.
Not only that, but Apuzzo was
apparently trying to short the undercover cops on the deal - arresting officers
said they found only 100 Percocets on her.
Cops cuffed Boemmels a short time
later in the mall. Both were charged with criminal attempts to commit sales of
narcotics in a school zone, and Apuzzo was slapped with first-degree reckless
endangerment and interfering with an officer. She was released on a $50,000
bond and Boemmels remains in the slammer on a $150,000 bond.
Refund to Garth – Fox News
CLAREMORE, Okla. –
An Oklahoma hospital in country singer Garth Brooks'
hometown must return his $500,000 donation because it failed to build a women's
center in honor of his late mother, jurors ruled Tuesday.
Jurors sided with the
country star in the breach-of-contract lawsuit he filed against IntegrisCanadian
Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon. Brooks said he thought he'd reached a deal
in 2005 with the hospital's president, James Moore, but sued after learning the
hospital wanted to use the money for other construction projects.
The hospital had argued
that Brooks gave it unrestricted access to the money and only later asked that
the hospital build a women's center and name it after his mother, Colleen
Brooks, who died of cancer in 1999.
The jury included
several of the singer's fans, but all said they could judge the case fairly.
During the trial, Brooks
said he thought he had a solid agreement with Moore, whom he said initially
suggested putting his mother's name on an intensive care unit. When Brooks said
that wouldn't fit his mother's image, Moore suggested a women's center, the
singer testified.
"I jumped all over
it," Brooks told jurors in tearful testimony. "It's my mom. My mom
was pregnant as a teenager. She had a rough start. She wanted to help every kid
out there."
Brooks said he gave the gift anonymously, as he does with all charitable donations.
Brooks said he gave the gift anonymously, as he does with all charitable donations.
During
cross-examination, an Integris lawyer highlighted statements that Brooks made
in a deposition after he sued. Brooks said couldn't say whether the women's
center was promised, or whether his mother's name would be attached to an
existing center.
"I don't
remember," Brooks said in the deposition.

Heidi Klum a single
woman – Daily Caller
It looks like Heidi Klum is saying “auf Wiedersehen” to
her husband, Seal.
The German supermodel and Grammy-winning singer announced their
separation on Sunday night, People reports. It seemed like one of Hollywood’s strongest
unions: The couple were together for nearly a decade — which is at least three
decades in Hollywood years. But the
marriage couldn’t sustain distance, with the couple’s home in L.A. and Klum
shooting Project Runway in New York City.
Marital strain reportedly came from Klum’s success in her career,
while Seal’s musical career hasn’t hit a high note since the 1990s. (We can’t
remember anything he’s done since “Kissed By A Rose”).
The couple have three children together: Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and
Lou, 2. Klum’s daughter, Leni, 7, is from a previous relationship.
Same Sex Marriage – NPR
Citing the Golden Rule and saying that
"all men and women in our state [should] enjoy the same privileges that
are so important in my life," the last legislator needed to pass same-sex
marriage legislation in Washington State announced this afternoon that she will
support the measure.
Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, a Democrat, posted a statement about her decision here.
Her support gives proponents "the
25 votes needed for passage" in the state's Democratic-controlled Senate, according to The Seattle Times. There already was
enough support in the state House (also Democratic controlled) and Gov.
Christine Gregoire (D) has said she would sign such
legislation.
Moose Fight – Huffington Post
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An 85-year-old
Alaska woman used a grain shovel to fend off an agitated moose that was
stomping her husband. George Murphy says
his wife saved his life. The Anchorage
Daily News (http://bit.ly/yahDtF) says the 82-year-old pilot, who flew for
three decades for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, was hiking with his golden
retrievers near the Willow airport Friday. He saw the moose and dove in the
snow, but the moose started stomping him.
His wife, Dorothea, who is 5 feet tall and weighs 97 pounds, grabbed a
big shovel and hit the moose in the body and head. She ran for help, and Murphy was rushed by
medical helicopter to an Anchorage hospital. He was in good condition Monday
with a gash to his head.
Congressional Twitter – The Hill
Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.) signed onto Twitter on
Monday. His Twitter handle is @RepAdrianSmith.
“I am excited about expanding my use of social media, which has proven to be an
effective way of sharing important and timely information about the critical
issues facing our country,” Smith said in a statement released by his office. He has only tweeted once so far: “Welcome
to my official Twitter account. Be sure to follow me to stay connected. Proud
to represent NE's 3rd District in Congress! Pls RT” Smith’s debut means that all three of
Nebraska’s House representatives and both senators are now accessible by
Twitter.
