Good morning to you, today is Tuesday, January 10, 2012, and I am your humble host, the sultan of sarcasm, the purveyor of non-pertinent information, the troublemaker extraordinaire and I are coming to you recorded from the Eagle’s nest here at wake up central with news you can’t use here on the Tuesday edition of The Morning Wake Up Call.

We will be bringing you the final score tomorrow on the Wednesday Wake Up Call

Tattle Tale – Huffington Post
Well, at least his son believes honesty is the best policy.  A St. Petersburg police report obtained by theTampa Bay Times says a fugitive's 2-year-old son told authorities his father was hiding in the family's attic.  Valdet Gjeloshi was wanted for violating probation on a battery charge.  Gjeloshi's wife, Megan Merschen, had told police that he was not in the house. But when his son said otherwise, police soon found and handcuffed the unlucky man on the run.  Gjeloshi was charged with a parole violation and for resisting arrest without violence, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's records.  The 29-year-old's rap sheet includes arrests for battery and DUI, according to arrest records.  This isn't the only time a 2-year-old has helped cops pursue law breakers.  Last Year, the Deccan Chronicle reported that a 2-year-old boy told police that his father had murdered his wife.  There are also plenty of other examples of kids turning in their parents for crimes such as drug possession and molestation.
Occupy Rats – Washington Post
The rat population around the two Occupy D.C. camps at McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza has “exploded” since protesters began their vigil in October, according to Mohammad N. Akhter, the director of the District’s Department of Health.
Akhter said in an interview Monday that city health inspectors have seen rats running openly through both camps and spotted numerous new burrows and nests underneath hay-stuffed pallets occupiers are using for beds. Both campsites had working kitchens for weeks until last week, but protesters at McPherson Square voluntarily closed down theirs after health inspectors pointed out unsanitary conditions during an informal monitoring visit.
Akhter said his concerns about the health and safety at the camps prompted him to order a city-wide review of conditions there, including input from health inspectors, mental health professionals, experts on the homeless and others. He is reviewing their findings this week.
“I’m very supportive of their rights and ability to demonstrate but I have concerns about their personal safety,” Akhter said.

Smoke Out Memory Loss – ABC News
The nicotine patch designed to help people quit smoking can also improve memory in older adults with mild cognitive impairment, or MCI, a small clinical trial found.
The trial involved 67 non-smokers with MCI, which is considered an intermediate between normal aging and dementia. People with MCI are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.
Half of the patients wore a skin patch that delivered 15 milligrams of nicotine per day; the other half wore a placebo patch. The study was double-blinded, meaning both the patients and the researchers were unaware who was getting the drug.
After six months, patients who wore the nicotine patch regained 46 percent of their age-adjusted "normal performance" on long-term memory tests, whereas patients in the placebo group worsened by 26 percent.
Nicotine stimulates receptors on neurons involved in learning and memory, called cholinergic neurons. In Alzheimer's disease, those neurons die off. In an earlier study, Newhouse showed intravenous nicotine could improve memory in Alzheimer's patients.
