March 26 Wake Up Call - Moochers Soapbox

What was it like on Tuesday I gave the extremely valuable information regarding what is a redneck and the difference between rednecks and sophisticated people. Well I got word from a representative of the Redneck Crew and they were very excited that I featured them in one of my shows. Ricky Ray said it took him a long time to get his NASCAR collection put together and he is more than excited to give a personal guided tour with extreme detail of every item in his collection. And with that new 92 inch TV he just bought…watching the race is just like being there. From what I have heard his girlfriend is like extremely thrilled!

I have done a little reading on this healthcare fiasco, I mean bill, that was just signed by Bohama and I am not sure that I totally agree with all of it. There is an effort to provide healthcare to everyone in America, which is wonderful, but my question is who is footing the bill for this bill. I do not want to get off on a soapbox here but….

We have way too many people able-bodied people in this country who are mooching off the government and I have to pay for it. I know that there are guidelines and such in place to “qualify” people for assistance and that is all well and good but you know as well as I do there are people out there who are totally less than honest during these qualifying procedures just so they can get a bigger share of the pie than they are entitled to. It is way too easy to falsify or misrepresent your income, your employment status or what ever and get free food and money from the government than it is to (a) go get a job or (b) get a better paying job and take care of yourself.

Second:
It burns my butt when I am driving down the road and there are the people driving high dollar vehicles tricked out with every piece of chrome and upgrade possible and you can’t possibly miss them because you can hear them coming five miles away with their $5,000 stereo system and all they do is sit at home and ride around all day waiting on the first of the month so they can get their check from the government. Man I wished I could get a check from the government every month, wouldn’t THAT be nice, I guess that is the price I pay for being a productive member of this socialist society. I get to go to work every day and bust my butt so I can pay my bills and your welfare program.

Third:
There are also the uninsured people who go to the ER every time they have a sniffle and never pay their bill, which in turn raises the cost of getting medical care for us honest people who work for a living and buy healthcare insurance, which in turn raised the cost of buying healthcare insurance and the cycle never stops. It is a classic case of passing the buck literally and every time the buck gets passed it gets bigger and I am the one in the end stuck with the bill.

However this is my opinion, you can take it and your government assistance and go have a party. Well looking at the clock I am quickly running out of time. I worked with the Vampires last night so I am going to go take a nap and head back into the office this afternoon. I hope you all have a wonderful day and a great weekend I know I am planning to but before I get out of here:

The Lost Boy

In the gospel of Luke the 15th chapter, we find three different parables. There is the one about a lost coin, one about a lost sheep, and the one about the lost boy. The third one is the one I am going to look at today. In Luke 15:11….

In a nutshell the Father has 2 sons, the younger son one day decided to cash in on his father’s inheritance move out of the house and be on his own. Well this was a cool plan or so it seemed until he spent all of the money he had. When he had lots of money he had lots of friends to help him spend it and when the money ran out so did the friends. It ended up that the young man was so broke and hungry he ended up feeding pigs and would have eaten the same stuff he was feeding the pigs. Finally one day he realized he messed up and decided to go back home, knowing that he did not have any more inheritance left to be given to him he was going to ask to at least be a servant in his father’s house.

How many times have we made decisions and afterwards realized that we made a big mistake. The awesome part of the story is that it has a happy ending, when the young man went home his father was very happy to see him, even had a big party for him to welcome him home and accepted him as his son once again rather than making him a servant. Our bad choices can have a happy ending too, Just as the young man left his father’s house when we make bad choices we leave our heavenly father’s house, and just like the young man in the story we can come back home and our heavenly father will accept us if we are willing to admit we have made wrong decisions and are willing to turn away from our decisions.

I can not tell you how many times I have read Luke 15 and thought that story was written about me. Yes I have made some bad choices and decisions in my lifetime and I am very thankful that God was willing to take me back when I realized I needed to go back home. Maybe you have made some bad choices or decisions and need to turn around and walk away from the choices you have made, yes I know it is hard, many times we do not want to admit or realize we have messed up. However our heavenly father is waiting on us to come home, the door is always open, we just have to make the decision to go back home.

I sincerely hope these thoughts have been helpful for you and will motivate you in your daily walk. I pray that the rest of your week will be a great one, we are half way through this one another weekend will be here before you know it. My challenge to you today is to make sure you tell your spouse or significant other if you are not married that you love them and give them a big hug. I can not wait till Susan gets home this afternoon so I can give her a hug.

Quote of the Day

If you believe in the Gospel what you like, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself. - Augustine of Hippo

I hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for watching and God bless!

March 18 Wake Up Call - Christmas Soapbox

Now I periodically as I did this morning give you the run down of the year 2010, you know the Julian calendar date, how many days left in the year and how many days left till Christmas. I do this for a couple of reasons, first and foremost I am the purveyor of non-pertinent information and secondly to keep you informed and aware that Christmas is just around the corner. Now I do not want to get off on a soapbox here but;

Christmas comes the exact same time of the year and actually the exact day of the year every year. I have been hanging around this planet for 30 something years now and Christmas always comes on December the 25th. However, every year people get all excited and surprised when the Christmas season arrives. I have actually heard people say, “Man, Christmas snuck up on me this year”, give me a break. Now all of the sudden everyone starts watching their spending because they have to pay for Christmas, or they max out every credit card in their wallets paying for their Christmas and spend the entire next year paying off their credit cards. This past Christmas I had people wanting discounts on their hotel rooms because as they would day, it’s Christmas you know so money is tight. Yes I do know it is Christmas and for the past at least 10-12 years my money has not been tight just because it is Christmas. Why you ask, because I know from year to year exactly when Christmas is going to come and I prepare for it. It is not because I have inside information from Santa Clause, it is because for the past 36 years of my live, as I mentioned earlier, it comes on the same day every year.

I have 2 savings accounts at my bank and every Friday when I get paid, I have my bank account set up so that automatically a set amount of money gets transferred from my checking account into my Christmas savings account and that money sits there all year and I do not touch it for anything. Then come November the first I go down to the bank and make a withdrawal from that savings account IN CASH, the wife and I sit down and decide what we are going to buy everyone, check out the prices on the internet or sale papers and then go have a blast buying Christmas gifts, and when the cash runs out… I’m done, there is no putting it on the credit card or not paying bills so I can buy extra gifts or anything like that. It is called planning and budgeting.

Yeah, yeah, I can hear some of you now, “I live paycheck to paycheck, I can not afford to do that” yep and you are the ones scraping loose change out of the sofa come December to pay the electric bill or buy groceries. I live paycheck to paycheck too so don’t give me your sob story, it is called being responsible, it is called planning, it is called stashing 10-20 dollars every week so that you can afford to buy Christmas at the end of the year. I mean come on, we are talking about the price of a pizza, a trip to McDonald’s, a case of beer, or whatever you blow your money on anyway every week. Then come December you can purchase that loved one a gift that they probably wont like anyway and you can still take care of your daily bills. However this is just my opinion, you can take it and $5 and go buy yourself a pack of smokes.

Well kids that is about all the time we have for today, I am headed to the bed, got another night of hanging with vampires and then tomorrow I will be off to Chattanooga for the weekend so there will be no show tomorrow. Gonna have a little birthday party for my grandmother.

March 16 Wake Up Call - Faith vs Fear

This morning I want to offer a few motivational thoughts about faith and fear.

In studying about the Children of Israel and their exodus out of the land of Egypt I have always been amazed at how they lost faith when the slightest hint of trouble crossed their path, weather it was the Red Sea, no water, no food or what ever the situation might have been. Each time Moses would go to God and he would take care of their problems and issues, and the Israelites would be happy until the next problem and once again they would soon forget that God was on their side and would see them through. If you remember God led them to the promise land twice, the first time Moses sent 12 spies to check out the land and bring back a report (Numbers 13:21 - 14:9). The spies came back after 40 days and revealed to the Israelites that the land was rich, flowed with milk and honey, even brought back some of the fruit of the land. They brought one cluster of grapes that was so big it took 2 people to carry it back!! All 12 spies saw the exact same thing, they saw the big thick walls around the cities, they saw the giants in the lands and ten of the spies were ready to throw up their hands and call it quits saying they could not take over the land. Yet Caleb suggested that they go up and take the land at once (Numbers 13:30), Joshua suggested that with God on their side they could take the land (Numbers 14:8). Sad enough the Children of Israel listened to the 10 and not Caleb and Joshua, crying to Moses that he should have left them in Egypt and not brought them to the wilderness to die.

Remember, all 12 men saw the exact same thing so why is it that 2 of them were willing to go and take the land and 10 were ready to throw in the towel? Two of the men had faith and the other 10 had fear!! Let’s take a look at what faith is and what fear is.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen".  OK, what is the "substance of things hoped for" and the "evidence of things not seen"? I ask myself that question often. A few years ago I came across this definition of faith: "Faith is trusting in the fact that what you can not foresee will happen". I do not think Caleb and Joshua knew exactly how it was that God would help them take the promise land, but they trusted in the fact that God would deliver it to them.

So what is fear?? "Fear is trusting in the fact that what you can not foresee will happen"

Now you are saying hold on Mike is that definition for Fear the exact same definition you gave for Faith?? I am impressed, you listen quite well!

The other 10 spies trusted in themselves alone and did not factor God into the equation for taking over the promise land and chances are they were correct in their observation. On their own the children of Israel would have been slaughtered if they had tried to go into the promise land and take it over. All they saw was the big walls and big people and they got scared and said we can not do it.

Conclusion:

How often are we faced with obstacles or problems and think we can take them on ourselves and forget to factor in God?? We are told to take our petitions to God (I John 5: 14-15) and he will hear us. How often do we quote Philippians 4:13 and do not put our faith in Christ to help us??

We, just as the children of Israel, are trying to get to the promise land with our promise land being Heaven. Paul tells us to keep running the race (I Corinthians 9:24-27) and that God will reward faithfulness (I Corinthians 15:58). The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).

I hope these comments this morning have been motivating and uplifting for you as you go through your daily walk with God. Thank you for watching, call someone and tell them that you love them, have a wonderful day and God bless.

March 11 Wake Up Call - New Year's Resolution

We are 71 days into the year 2010 and I wonder just how many of you have forgotten all about that New Year’s resolution? Or should I ask how many of you even remember what your New Year’s resolution was? Everyone gets all excited at the end of each year and starts talking about their resolutions, “Oh I’m going to lose weight”, “I’m going to save money”, or “I’m going to do this”, and “I’m going to do that” and then after a few weeks you start slipping and then you say “I’m going to get back on it next week”. Eventually next week never comes. And we know that going into the process yet we fool ourselves by saying “This year I’m going to stick with it”, and you never do. I am going to be totally honest with you, I have not had a “New Year’s Resolution” in several years, why, I know I will not stick with it. Instead I make 365 resolutions during the year, every morning I decide I am going to try to be a better person today than I was yesterday.
Being a better person can involve several aspects of your life and there are days I succeed and then there are days I fail miserably. But if you get right down to it you can put everything in your life into one of 4 main categories: Mentally, Physical, Spiritual, and Social. In Luke 2:52 we read that “Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man. This verse shows us that Christ who is our perfect example of how we should live our lives grew in mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. Luke 2:52 is the first memory verse that I can remember having as a kid and for years this verse has stuck with me and has been my favorite verse in the Bible but I never knew why……… until a couple of years ago when I sat down and started looking at it and realized truly what this verse was saying and then I realized that I had been using the principles of this verse to guide my life or at least trying to guide my life.
If you resolve every day to try to be the best person you can be and live your life to the best of your ability you will have no need for a resolution come December 31. However this is just my opinion.
Ok, many of you who watch this show and are fans are aware of or may remember some issues that arose a couple of months ago regarding a couple of my post and the after math that followed. This show ended up being a by-product of those issues as I took on the self proclaimed title of your friendly local trouble maker and the trouble maker extraordinaire as well as, purveyor of non-pertinent information and most certainly the sultan of sarcasm and the ever popular Legal Mumbo Jumbo. Although I have not said anything lately the issues are alive and well and we are still dealing with them. I mentioned early on that Susan and I had made some decisions and still had more decisions to make. We are very close to making another decision regarding these issues and we want to solicit your prayers on our behalf.

Feb 19 Wake Up Call - Polititcal Correct

Headlines:
Timmy Tom has stepped down as Redneck in Chief of the Redneck Crew and has declined comment at this time. So they are looking for a new head honcho for their organization.

I was told that I am too sympathetic, gotta work on that one, for some reason I smell another support group coming.

The Climate Change Coalition seems to be breaking down after 3 major sponsors have pulled out and now the UN head has resigned his post. There is much concern regarding their annual meeting this year that is to be held in Mexico. Have you noticed that it is no longer called Global Warming? I guess the new political correct way to say Global Warming is Climate Change. Now I do not want to get off on a soapbox here but…

How many of you have ever played cards? How did you describe the different suites in the deck? “I will play the 2 of little pointed garden tool used for digging”, of course not, you said “I will play the 2 of spades”. The American society has lost the ability to call a “Spade” a “Spade” for fear we will hurt someone’s precious little feelings. Get over it!!! In the mid 90’s I sold computers while working for a National chain and we called them PC’s for short. Now days, PC apparently stands for some lame concept called Politically Correct. Instead of calling a janitor a janitor we have to call them “Environmental Service Engineer”, the guy that picks up your trash is a “Sanitation Engineer” and the list goes on and on. So basically you can have little to no education and still get the title of engineer, now every Tom, Dick, and Harry or Antonio, Dante, and Hermando is an engineer. You know that this makes every real engineer that has at least 6 to 8 years of higher education and a college degree to give them the right to have the title of engineer, the warm fuzzy feeling to know that now anyone can be an engineer. They should have saved themselves the time and money of going to college. Oh, I forgot, real engineers make big money. There is another area of PC that just burns my hind end every time I hear it, and that is everyone hyphenating everything. What happened to the days of black and white? I was filling out an application for my son to join a youth organization and it asked for his race, it had listed African-American, Asian-American, Native-American, European-American, Latin-American, and so on. At the bottom of the list was a box labeled other, I checked that box and in the blank provided beside it I wrote “White Kid”.NEWS FLASH!!!!!If you were born in America, you are an American!!!I had no idea that there were that many people that were born in Africa, Asia, Native, Europe and Latin and so on that were now legal U.S., American citizens. The only problem is they have forgotten that there are some of us that were born here in America and failed to put a box on the application for us to check. I guess you can say that I am an American-American. In case you have forgotten, the United States of America is what is called a Melting Pot, which means that we from all origins come together as one nation. There are so many out there that are so involved in trying to get equal rights for their “group” that they have segregated themselves from society in their efforts of desegregation. When you recite the Pledge of Allegiance, you say a powerful phrase which states “One Nation”, and our one nation is America. We are not many hyphenated nations because if you remember the Pledge of Allegiance also stated that we are indivisible, which means we are not a divided nation, however we have become so divided as a people that how much longer will it be until we become divided as a nation? Stand up and get rid of the hyphen before we become the U.S.U.A. (United Stated of an Un-united America). However, in the words of my favorite philosopher Dennis Miller, this is just my opinion, I could be wrong. Let me know what you think facebook land. Post your comments on the video.

Interesting Fact of the Day:
Prior to forming the iconic rock band KISS, Gene Simmons was a 6th grade teacher in the NYC Harlem Spanish District.

Feb 26 Wake Up Call - Tiger Woods

OK on the front page of the sports section of the USAToday the cover story is “As idols fall, will clout ebb? Scandals deflate fans, knock athletes off hero-worship pedestal”. In the article it talks about how in the past we drank Gatorade because we wanted to “Be like Mike”, lyrics celebrated the golden era of Willie, Mickey, and the Duke, and we will always remember Ronald Reagan as the Gipper. Now the headlines are OJ confessing to murder, McGuire testifying to using steroids, Michael Vick and the dog fighting, Marion Jones admitting to using performance enhancing drugs and now the Tiger and all his women. In a recent USA Today/Gallop poll, 47% of adults said they consider Woods to be less of a role model since his news of extramarital affairs in November. Now I do not want to get off on an soap box here, but……

Why is it that we hold people in the public eye to a higher standard than everyone else? Are they not allowed to make mistakes? Please do not get me wrong, I do not agree with or condone what Tiger has done because it was wrong. However we are nailing him to the wall because he made a mistake. I was in Toys-R-Us last Christmas in the video game aisle and there was a grandmother looking for a game for her grandson. The sales associate pointed out a very popular Tiger Woods game and she had a hissy fit. “We will NOT be buying any Tiger Woods games”, she said.

My question to Tiger is, “Have you taken a look at your wife lately?” she is quite the fox my man. Why did ya have to go looking in other places for women? Yeah, yeah, I know what you are saying, “He is a role model”, well yeah and so are a lot of other people. Just because he makes more money in one putt than I do in a year does not mean he is that much of a better person than I am, he puts his pants on one leg at a time just as I do.

Do we really realize how much stress and pressure we put on public figures, we analyze every step they take and every move they make, not counting being the armchair golfer and critiquing every stroke on the golf course. If I were to think that there are not people looking up to me just as there are people looking up to Tiger I would be fooling myself, and the same goes for you too. We all have people who look up to us and admire us. As for me I do not have to leave my house as I have three young boys who look up to me and see me as some kind of super dad who can do anything and fix every thing and can do no wrong. Now do you think that is not a stressful situation? Now multiply that by tens of thousands of people, no wonder celebrities find themselves doped up and drunk, they are looking for some way to cope with the stress we have put on them.

If you or I were to make some kind of a mistake would we find our faces plastered all over the television or newspapers, blog sights, and national enquirer? Nope cause no one would care. So why do it to the people who are out there trying to make a living using their God given talents. I honestly do not care that they make more money in one year than I could even think about spending in a lifetime. I say leave them alone, let them do what ever it is that they get paid to do, and when the game is over let them go home and live their life. But that is just my opinion. Tell me what you think Facebook land and leave your comments on this video.

Feb 11 Wake Up Call - Bad Drivers

I trust everyone is having a wonderful day so far, I just got home from working the grave yard shift and just had to stop by and share a few things with you this morning.

The getter done association is on a roll. They are accomplishing all the stuff that no one else cares to do and are receiving little to no appreciation. So hats off to them on their hard efforts. If it wasn’t for them everyone else would have to do something.

Schools are back in session today which amazes me because I saw a patch of ice on a sidewalk in a school zone. I hope none of the kiddies slip and fall. Way to go Dr. Zombie.

I learned that turn signals are not required when making a sudden change of lanes, especially if you are cutting in front of someone nearly taking out their front bumper. Who gave this person the privilege to drive?

I do not want to get on a soap box here but driving is a privilege and is one that should be taken seriously. Back 20+ years ago when I got my driver’s license, I had to take not only a written test but a driving test too. Is this not a requirement anymore? The driving skills of some people are deplorable at best. And now we have ipods, cell phones, gps, and every other gadget imaginable to distract us from what we have gotten into the drivers seat of our vehicles to do, car stereos have remote controls now. Just because you know how to send me a text message does not mean you have to do it while doing 60 down the by-pass. If I had not seen this one the other day I would have never believed it. The guy in front of me was shaving with his electric razor while apparently listening to some hip hop music swerving all over both lanes of the road. Look Dante, that is not a mobile bathroom you are navigating, do your shaving at the house then drive your truck! It is not a mobile phone booth either. The problem there is if the government decides to pass the law that states that you cannot talk on your cell phone while you are driving the cops will have to hang up from their phone call in order to write you a ticket. Look around, 90% of the cops you see driving are on a cell phone and they are to give me a ticket for doing the same?? Don’t think so Barney! And no, the auto manufactures were not doing you chicks a favor by putting you a make-up mirror on the back of the visor.

Put your make up on at the house, get your shaving done after you get out of the shower, text your bff and tell them you will call them when you get to where ever it is you are going, THEN, get in your vehicle and drive. But of course this is just my opinion.
